Art Atkin Memorial Award

Born in Victoria B.C. Art was married to Shirley and they had four children (Judie, Cathy, Chris and Tony). While working at Union Carbide in Belleville and with promotions within the company saw him moving to Toronto, Ontario.

In 1965, Art received his RIA degree receiving Gold Medals for the highest marks in both in Ontario and Canada. While working in Toronto at Union Carbide he commenced teaching night school at York University and completing his teaching career as a full time instructor for 10 years at North Bay Canadore College.

Art was the Treasurer for Champlain Forest Products in North Bay and for a period of two years was Assistant treasurer at North Bay City Hall.  He was Gold Master in Bridge as well as a Founding Member of the North Bay Bridge Club and also loved both 5 & 10 pin bowling and the game of golf.

As owner and operator of the Tidas Book Store on Main Street and with the opening of the North Bay Mall Art opened his 2nd Store (Tidas 11). Wingate continues to be a great supporter of all sports within North Bay, especially the North Bay Trappers whereby Art was instrumental in having Wingate becoming one of team’s Major Sponsor.

In closing education was extremely important to Art who was a very strong believer that all youth should be well rounded, with a good combination of athletics, education and fun activities.
